A review about " Personal tendency" short film by Mahsa Alinaghian
The short film "Personal Tendency”, directed by Arash Roshanjuy and Alireza Aghaalikhani, tells the story of a teenager and its fears and hopes. These fears and hopes, if they occur in the right economic and social conditions, will lead to brilliant events in youth and adulthood, but if a teenager puts his dreams and hopes in those tense years, far from the reach and power of himself and his family, he may create unfortunate events for himself.
“Personal tendency” 15-minutes short film shows a family on the edge of collapse in today's Iran, and the main cause of this collapse is the economic and mental issues of the family.
The screenwriter and director's use of symbolism in the film (the mother character's blue scarf and the purchase of this scarf at the beginning of the film, as well as the blueness of the bicycle) works well. The characters are also well shown, and each carries a part of the drama to show a coherent whole of the story and family life of the people.
Also, the characterization of Omid, the teenage character of the film, who is a bit reckless in his behavior and actions, has been properly shown. The dream of riding and having a bicycle, as well as loving a teenage girl in the neighborhood, makes the audience closer to what happens to them at the end. On the other hand, Omid's character is opposed to his father's conservative and failed character. The actors of the roles of father and Omid portrayed the inner layers of the characters very well.
The film has tried its best in terms of directing and filming techniques, and as a student project, it produces an acceptable short film and paints a bright future for its young directors.
