Review of the short script "Quarantine"

Quarantine short script written by Lida Sadeghi and Fatemeh Hosseini confronts the reader with a surreal subject in the opening sequence. A young man with a lock on his shoulder. The very beginning encourages the reader to read the continuation of the events. We are not going to see events in the script that are in line with the daily reality of our lives.

After this shocking image, the screenplay flashbacks to twelve years ago and most of the story tooks place in flashbacks. This script, which examines an old belief in a family, although its main goal is not to scare the audience, has some elements of the horror genre:

1. In horror movies, humans are at war with external monsters such as demons, vampires, goblins, etc., and escape from them.

2. In these films, the main character is the victim, not the hero.

3. Religion is viewed as a mediator that can influence the outcome of events.

4. The place (house, village, etc.) has importance in horror movies.

This screenplay takes place in a village house, and the image of the house helps to create a mysterious atmosphere in the screenplay. Tahir, the main character of this story is the main victim, and he struggles with the fear that has existed since his childhood and in previous generations, and in the end, religion mixed with superstitions saves him for years.

The writers of the screenplay have used the elements of the horror genre to create a surreal subject that causes the character's fear (and not the audience's fear). The interesting point of the script is that the writers do not intend to reject the local superstitions and fears, and in the end, by removing the lock from Tahir's shoulder, he reaches the border of destruction due to the anxiety and fear that always bothers him. A ruin where there is no sign of supernatural beings. It is only fear and surrendering oneself to the hands of events that destroy the character. A fear that Tahir does not see an end to except resorting to superstitions.

In general, the screenplay has sufficient coherence in depicting unexpected events, it has used the least amount of dialogue and narrates its story by describing scenes based on details.
