Director's statement

Arjang, my third uncle has been always a special character to me. I could calm myself by going to his studio and falling asleep while watching him paint. Arjang Kamkar is the only Kamkars family member in the second generation who is engaged with another art in addition to music. He was an art-painting student at the Fine Art University of Tehran before the cultural revolution which ended up in closing universities for several years.

Although he is occupied with artistic work, he is interested in philosophy and dialectic. He lights on visions for me in different stages of my life by explaining interesting and useful theories to me. The fifth child of Hassan Kamkar (the Great Maestro Kamkar), Arjang, always painted for himself and he was not looking for fame. Arjang’s painting exhibition does count less than fingers of hands.

This humility made Arjang away from the Iran painting market despite his talents and innovations, such as using the roller in his work sand using the inimitable rhythm in his painting. There are not many people who know that Arjang, the great Tonbak/Drum Player of Kamkars Ensemble is a talented and well-experienced painter. All I saidin addition to the influence he had on my life, encouraged me to make a documentary about his amazing personal and artistic life overthe last sixty-five years. I have tried to make people familiar with the Great Arjang Kamkar.

 "portrait documentary"

Portrait documentary is one of the methods of documentary filmmaking and one of the few documentaries in Iran, and it is considered a very important genre in documentary cinema.
The purpose of making a portrait documentary is to approach the characteristics of a person to explore the way and facts of that person's life and that era. In the documentary "Arjang, Rhythm and Colour' the life of Arjang Kamkar is discussed with the method of interactive face painting.
In this way, one's monologues are the main characteristics. The person is aware of the existence of the camera and this awareness establishes a new relationship between the person, the filmmaker, and the audience.

 "spatula oil painting"

Arjang Kamkar is actually the first Iranian painter who did the technique of painting with a spatula and has had successful works in this field,

now this style has become one of the most popular methods in Iran. Painting with a spatula refers to a technique in which a spatula is used to pick up paint from the palette and transfer it to the canvas directly.
