Interview with Hana Kamkar director of "Arjang, rythm and colour" documentary
-What was your motivation for making the filmdocumentary?
Introducing a painter whom I knew closely and as it should be, everyone had not realized the various dimensions of the philosophy of art within him.
- How did the idea of the film come to you?
Since I was a child, every time I watched my uncle's painting, I felt so relaxed that I wanted to record this path of exploration for myself and others.
- What is your main goal of filmmaking in Iran?
Filming in Iran are only because this country is full of topics and ideas that I want to address as an independent filmmaker to these censored or less noticed aspects.
- How concerned is the subject of the movie and why did you choose this one?
It was mostly my concern and I wanted to open a way to discover other people interested in the world of painting and to know painters by entering the fantasy/mental world of my uncle.
- What were the Problems with the film production?
Production always creates financial problems for the filmmaker.
On the other hand, at the stage of reviewing the rushes I experienced many emotional moments of seeing my family's memories and their youth hurts me a lot. So I paid more so that I could have an assistant to watch old archives.
Another thing is that it is very challenging to make a portrait documentary of a person as an artist, even if he is your uncle.
- Tell us about the positive points and good memories in making, producing, writing the script, finding the crew, or any other subject that can inspire the filmmakers.
In one period of time as I said in the previous question, the problems became big and I was disappointed to continue the production of this documentary when suddenly I found one of my old friends, the filmmaker; Omid Hashemlou in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic and he made me eager to make a film with Farideh Saremi who was our mutual friend, and in a short time, the situation was settled.
- Tell us about the film funding and the challenges.
Whatever I earned from the theaters I played in or from the sale of my first film: the documentary "Chavush; From Income to Landing", was used to make this film. But after its end and seeing the result, even though the expenses have not yet been returned, I breathed a sigh of relief and I am happy that my second documentary film, which was my constant concern, was made.
- What are your expectations of your movie?
I wanted it to be screened in Iran, but it didn't happen! I wanted at least a few festivals to welcome this portrait film, but it didn't happen! which I know is very philosophical and educational rather than entertainment.
I want it to be shown on world television like France's Arete, which there is no hope is not a prospect!
