Review of the short film "Not hearing by Ahmad Samimi
The short film ``Not hearing” by Ahmad Samimi is a well-made film that firstly deals with the problems that people with disabilities face in their daily lives, and secondly shows a bigger crisis.
The young deaf couple have a good relationship with each other and are waiting for the birth of their child. The crisis happens when the woman's water bag accidentally ruptures and the man who works on a taxi, cannot reach his wife. No matter how hard he tries to communicate with different people and the police, he forces to steals a motorcycle.
The people and the police, apart from not being able to understand the man's sign language, have no desire to understand him. A deaf person who is left out of society and hearing people do not hear him in times of crisis. The traffic crisis, the crisis of excessive use of motorcycles in the metropolis of Tehran, the crisis of the lack of management of the police and subordinate institutions all work together to make the hero find himself more alone than ever.
The use of classical structure in this short script makes the story deeper and more interesting. Everything is normal, the characters and their situation are introduced, the triggering incident (the rupture of the woman's water bag) happens, the order of life is disturbed and the hero tries his best to return the situation to the previous state. At the climax, he steals and ultimately fails. Although we think that this failure and the arresting sequence of the man is the ending of the film, but the image of the woman who regains consciousness, the sound of the heartbeat that is heard and the sound of the key turning in the door lock is a happy ending. It sets the drama for the film.
The film is also successful in production, direction and acting. The use of urban long shots has helped to show the loneliness of the man in the city.
