Interview with Saleh Bokharaei director of "Tamed" short film
What was your motivation for making the film?
For this project, expressing the concept, feelings, and personal impressions in the medium of cinema with a different structure.
How did the idea of the film come to you?
The book "Schopenhauer's Therapy" written by Erwin D. Yalom and a look at the Stoics' narration of life was influential in the making of this film. For a better transfer of data, a storyboard was prepared at the very beginning and discussed with friends.
What is your main goal of filmmaking in Iran?
Regardless of geography, Iran, or anywhere, the goal is to express the concept. Naturally, due to the poor conditions in Iran right now, this need is felt more, and I hope that by passing this corrupt system, we will have better conditions in the future.
How concerned is the subject of the movie and why did you choose this one?
The aim is not to directly refer to the subject or drama but to convey the feeling that everyone faces Conscious and unconscious conflict and how to react to this concept.
How did you come to these cast and crew and what are your criteria for selection?
Cast and crew changed several times, and meetings and discussions about the work and scheduling took about two months, with the limited time we had and the working space and sensitivities of this work, we had the biggest challenge in pre-production.
What were the Problems with the film production?
Group work can always be challenging. We tried to solve the issues in pre-production so that we don't face those problems in the process of filming.
Tell us about the positive points and good memories in making, producing, writing the script, finding the crew or any other subject that can inspire the filmmakers?
In a scene where Ali Pooya had the first take of conflict and tension in his sleep, Racy, my dog who always accompanied me, had such an emotional reaction to Ali Pooya's rescue that it stayed in my mind. In general, every moment of this project was enjoyable for me, despite the difficulty of the work, along with this lovely and accompanying crew. I hope my friends think the same.
Tell us about the film funding and the challenges?
Self-funding can symbolize a part of this dark world in this film, the film either shouldn't have been made or should have been done in this quality. Considering that independent cinema is generally neither supported nor welcomed, and considering that the contentment of the crew is very important to me, that was very difficult for me to get funding.
What are your expectations of your movie?
I hope to be able to present a collection with a free mind that has only expressed my perception of life.
